Prednisone.

Prednisone can be recommended for patients with low corticosteroid levels that need to have the balance of that natural occurring chemical restored. Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while using this medication. It's very important that you benefit from the treatment as much as possible, and grapefruit juice has been reported to affect the quality of your treatment as it can cause interactions with prednisone. There are also a number of medications that can interact with prednisone – and you will let your doctor know about them if you are using any of them at the moment. The following drugs will need to be mentioned to make sure your treatment is both safe and efficient: rifampin, hormonal contraceptives, delavirdine, HIV protease inhibitors, anticoagulants, phenytoin, cyclosporine, rifabutin, antifungals, diltiazem, cimetidine, diuretics, amiodarone, aspirin, lovastatin, medications for diabetes, efavirenz, clarithromycin, or sertraline. Mild side effects are common at the beginning of the treatment but are unlikely to bother you for too long. The following side effects are sometimes reported: slowed healing of cuts and bruises, weak muscles, increased perspiration, acne, decreased sexual desire, dizziness, headache, thin, fragile skin, heartburn, extreme changes in mood, insomnia, extreme tiredness, and increased hair growth.
